چکیده

Introduction The pleuro-pulmonary changes associated with rheumatoid arthritis are well known. A rare and more specific lesion is the subpleural or intraparenchymal rheumatoid nodule. The pulmonary nodules usually occur in patients with severe disease with subcutaneous nodules and high titres of rheumatoid factor. They may cavitate, and spontaneous pneumothorax may occur (Hindle and Yates, 1965; Portner and Gracie, 1966; Rubin, Gordon and Thelmo, 1967). This report documents a further interesting case.

This article discusses the case of a patient who died of massive hemoptysis after a left upper lobectomy. There were no previous signs of broncho-pleural fistula except for an obstinate dry cough and slightly elevated serum C-reactive protein levels after surgery. An autopsy revealed that a fistula...

Turpentine-induced chemical pneumonitis with broncho-pleural fistula.

Turpentine is a volatile hydrocarbon used in polishes, solvents, paints and textile industry. When hydrocarbons are aspirated into the lung, they cause chemical pneumonitis, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), and rarely pneumatoceles and pneumothorax. We report a 20-year old boy with turpentine-induced chemical pneumonitis that evolved into a bronchopleural fistula. He was treated with...
